Dan's 26th Birthday was this last friday. Birthdays are hard. What do you plan to have fun? What fun things can we do? I thought it over and we decided to have a picnic and go hiking. Well, the morning went by, Dan woke up and while eating breakfast opened a few of the presents I got him, I laptop board to put his laptop on, pringles, and a sculpture of a man drumming. He thought that was pretty cool. He rushed to school, and I went to visit his mom. She bought him some new shoes.. (I'll post a picture..) So the day went quickly, i made some special baked beans, (Dan's Grandmother's recipe) and we all went to Logan canyon to hike the wind caves and eat. It was dark by the time we got there so we decided to stay and picnic instead of hike. Dan's mom brought other salads she had made, two peach pies and cake... and sandwich stuff. She looked at me and said, "Did you bring the bread?" I shook my head, and told her I talked to Dan's little sis on the phone and she told me not to bring any... Without bread, no sunlight left everyone felt kinda bummed, we didn't really know whether to change our plans and go home to get the rest of our food or just to stay there and only eat salads without sandwiches (the main course). We stayed. we ate all the salads, and the baked beans. To my surprise everyone commented on the beans atleast twice, saying how good they were. It is such an easy recipe, I was glad they loved them.
We ate and had pie, then went to Dan's parents house and had cake and ice cream just an hour later. I felt so stuffed, I could hardly walk. I don't know if I've ever had peach pie before, but it tasted really fresh, and sweet. Dan wanted to work on his car all day, but without the right parts, he couldn't. I got lucky, I had work off and got to hang out with him the whole time. I have to post all the neat pictures, the staircase we found in the canyon was really neat... I wish I could have gotten a better shot of those, Becca you would love them! They are so old, covered in moss and cracked, but still beautiful. Check it out! Now Dan is 26! I wonder what I'll feel like at 26... I'll be 22 soon, and I still feel like I'm 18.
Ps. What are some good anniversary Ideas... Anyone?

Happy Birthday Dan!! Maybe for a surprise you can make it possible for him to work on a car all day..but he needs to learn early that HIS birthday is now your birthday too! haha..just joking. So those stairs ARE cool! You definitely need to go back when its light and get some more pics- from weird angles, with a dog on them, with a kid on them. If we are there long enough when we come visit next month, I would love to go myself :) Thats so funny how the dinner turned out! I bet it was still a great dinner..and Im so glad everyone liked your beans! I hate it when I make something and no one seems to say anything.
My first anniv. ideas (some I looked up, some are my own)
1.Make cool necklaces or bracelets that both of you can wear..puka shells or something. If you can find a bead that has like the first letter of your name or his name, or just a phrase that you two especially like ("peace","love")..especially if its a japanese letter/phrase or some other language- that way its a secret between the two of you.
2. Go and get old fashioned pictures done. You can do something like the sepia saloon ones or even better- wear like really old overalls and straw hats, look kinda funny and hillbilly like and call it the "Ma and Pa Garvin" picture.
3. Make shirts that say :"Im with the Hotty" with arrows and take a picture, haha
4. ( I really hope you do this one) Go to Shutterfly.com and upload pics from your first day of marriage to the present and make a photo album. It costs $30 for 20- 30 pages (I think) and there are all sorts of layouts to choose from. Plug in the pictures you upload from your computer and add little journal entries of what was happening in each picture. Dont be only sweet..say things that bugged you about the other person- stuff you learned- end it with how much happier you are because of your marriage. If I were you, I'd do it together and make sure you have it by the time your anniversary happens to look thru together and share with other people. I think I've talked myself into making one for me!
Wow he is OLD!!! Okay I just have to say that cause I am 25 so 26 year olds are some of my favorite people! My fav anniversary thing to do is just go to the temple and do sealings then do dinner but then again I have never had an anniversary without kids so we always had to do short things!
Are you going to be in Utah next month Becca?
I'm still laughing about the bread thing, that's what i would do! Last Anniversary in Logan, we ate at Kamin (Thai food, excellent and about as expensive as the Indian restaurant) stayed at the Anniversary Inn (Tarzan Room, totally fun)and thought about the couples massage, but couldn't cause we didn't have the money, so we just brought lotion and gave each other massages. rented a couple movies and drank sparkling apple cider while we watched. I think we also went to the fun center and bowled or roller skated... or both, can't remember... last year... well we didn't do anything ON our anniversary, but prior to it we stayed at a hotel and went to the restaurant at the top of the Joseph Smith Memorial building- also recommended
One anniversary we went Kayaking, another we walked along the beach, got pedicures (it was just supposed to be for me but he was manly enough to give it a try) and ate at an oceanside restaurant, at The King and Prince Hotel.
We take turns planning the anniversary. Sounds like he likes cars. Are you planning it?
